(Re)connecting

I rang in 2018 in Brisbane with friends. And not just any friends, people I’d known more than half my life. People who knew all my stories. People who understood my passion for travelling. People that I love like they are family.

While we were sitting there solving all the world’s problems, something occurred to me. My first blog post.

Where to from here?

Somewhere new.  Anywhere different.

To see people as well as places.

It’s not just geography.  When we share these moments with people, we become the best version of ourselves.

I had written this original blog post back in November with a tentative idea of a round the world trip that would involve visiting friends. Sitting on that back deck in Brisbane 6 weeks later, I was certain that a trip solely focussed on reconnecting with friends was the next adventure.

Reconnecting with friends I had met when we were living as expats or travelling. It was a thought that made me smile.

On top of spending time with remarkable people, this trip would also give me an opportunity to see the places that they now called home but through their eyes.

Reconnecting with old friends with the added bonus of seeing their new neighbourhoods.

Brilliant.

So the order of events would be (from Sydney to): San Francisco, Redmond (Oregon), Minneapolis, Chicago, London, Zurich, Hong Kong, home. 15 January to 25 February.

It didn’t cover everybody but I would get an opportunity to see others throughout my travels later in the year.

First stop: a return to the West Coast of the US. San Francisco.

Get Lost. Stay Curious.

PS: you’ll notice my blog posts are more experiential and less advice driven. But for those of you wondering, the most effective way for me to cover off all these locations was via a Round the World ticket with shorter (internal) US and Europe flights on top. There are a few options with Round the World tickets each with their own pricing structures and specific rules. It took me a bit of research (and a travel agent) to work out the best deal.
