Something

Lukla to Namche (11 December 201 to 14 December 2017)

5 days from our ultimate goal. We’d been on the trail for 4 days. 4 days. Not even half way there.

And already I was planning which route I would take on the next trip.

There is something in these mountains that draws you in.

There is something in the villages among them. With their local produce, their stupas and prayer wheels, the local dogs who follow you and the odd chorus of “Namaste” from the children.

There is something in the rivers that run amongst them and the bridges that hang over them. This magnificent river has travelled from the highest peaks in the world and is now rushing with great speed under my feet as I cross the suspension bridges that form part of our trail.

There is something in seeing the amphitheatre that is Namche for the first time. A town that captures the warmth of the sun and provides much needed coffee and food for weary trekkers.

There is something in seeing Everest (Sagamartha) with your own eyes. The history and the grandeur and knowing that it’s the top of the world.

There is something in the way the light falls: like you can almost grab hold of it. These huge mountains slice and dice the light as they want, creating a unique atmosphere.

4 days on the trail and already I’m looking for reasons to come back.

Get Lost. Stay Curious.
